DIY Felt Rosette Pillow

Courtesy of Etsy's Handmade blog, The Storque, I found an AWESOME felt pillow design.  I have not worked with felt in a couple of years but for those of us who are not pros at sewing, felt is a savior!

Photo via The Storque
This pillow is so cool.  It's design totally goes with the trends, with the rosette/ruffle effect on the front and it is ORANGE, I LOVE orange:)  Alright, so lets get right into this.

Materials/Supplies Needed:

  • 10" x 18" Feather Pillow Insert

  • 23.5 x 19" Orange Felt for the Pillow Cover

  • 20" x 18" Orange Felt for the Rosettes

  • Matching Sewing Thread

  • Basic Sewing Kit

  • Sewing Machine

1.  Cut two peices of felt that are 11" x 19".  To make the rosettes you will need to cut out 60 circles that measure 3" in diameter.

2.  Pinch each felt circle in the middle and fold the edges to form the rosette shape.  Hand stitch the base of each rosette so it will hold its shape.

3.  Starting at one end of the front pillow panel sew on each rosette neatly at the base of each one and close together.
4.  Continue adding rosettes positioning them close together and in a straight line.  Make sure there is the same amount of blank space on the pillow above and below the rows of rosettes.
5.  Make up the pillow back using directions below.  Insert pillow form into finished cover.

1.  Lay the two peices on top of eachother making sure the edges are perfectly in line.  Pin the peices together on three sides, leaving the fourth side open.  Make sure not to pen too close to the edge so you have room to run your sewing machine along the edge.
2.  Using a matching thread and your sewing machine, sew along the three sides to join your peices together, removing the pins as you sew.  Cut off the corners on the diagonal, making sure not to cut your stitches.  This will create a neater pillow.

3.  Turn the pillow right side out and insert the pillow form.  To close the fourth side, fold the felt inside 1/2" and pin the edges together.
4.  Sticth the sides together keeping the thread as invisible as possible.

Find this pattern and other felt ideas in Anne Kyyro Quinn's book, Felt Furnishings.

Happy Felting!

Fun and Funky Interior Spaces

HAPPY TUESDAY!

Sorry I missed out on blogging yesterday:( Today I thought that I would just share some photos that I have collected over the past month of blogging, AKA time to clean out the "My Pictures" File........

How cool does this collection of photographs look above this wild print sofa!

One of my favorite rooms by Suzanne Kasler, the colors and patterns are SO PLAYFUL!

LOVE the pink wall between the black bookcases and the horns on the mantle!

This room is so fun and seems so easy, I like that!

WOW! What to look at, this room is adorable!

Again with the horns on the mantle! This room is so cheery, the blue is AWESOME!
I think I am IN LOVE with the white:)

WALLPAPER-Obsessed!

Good Morning! For having the best weekend EVER with my husband on our 1st Valentine's the start of this week has been a total drag! Already calf deep in snow it is expected to snow ALL DAY. Welcome to the midwest:) I know that I am ready for blue skies and sunshine...for those of you who are getting it, I am JEALOUS. Oh, but this is nothing a little inspiration can't fix! Today, I want to be inspired by wallpaper, my love.
ENJOY!

This muted tone of blue wallpaper takes the back seat while the vintage tufted purple sofa is the main event! Pops of pink and red tones make this room candy for the eye.

Lost in purple lushness, this neutral bed helps ground this lavendar beauty!

Bringing together the turquoise and cobalt blue paint colors in the room, this bold pattern wallpaper is an AWESOME contrast to the wood floors and exposed brick.

WOW! What was once a plain cupboard is now a beautiful masterpeice. Consider adding wallpaper to your furniture doors for an AWESOME outcome!

Once a formica top, now a beautiful spot to rest your teacup:)

Inspired yet?

I LOVE my grandparents!!!!

So my Granparents, being the wonderful people that they are have totally let me raid their home. Well, not really but REALLY!
A little over a year ago they invited my husband and I over for dinner. They told us that they had something to discuss with us. Next thing I know, Grandma has a brochure for a new subdivision in Fishers, Indiana. She opens up the brochure, shows us a beautiful home and floorplan and proceeds to tell us that they are building a new home and moving in May. WOW! This was a huge shock to us. They had a beautiful home in Indianapolis and I never thought they would move. They had been talking for years about updating the house they lived in and I was waiting for that news....but no! They were so excited like kids in a candy store to build a home together and make it everything they had ever wanted.
Well a little background on my husband and I.......I am an Interior Designer at Z&R Design in Fishers, Indiana and I like to call myself an amateur artist, while my husband Mike owns his own Home Remodeling company, Clean Feet.
They were basically getting ready to share with us our plans for the next year of our lives! We are so grateful to have such wonderful grandparents that were willing to put the fate of their new home in our hands! We have had so much fun with the house and now it is DONE! I am so excited to share these photos, this home makes me smile every time I am there, and not just because I get to see my grandparents :)

Thanks Lu, for your wonderful photography skills!!

from Centerfold to BEHOLD

A Playboy Playmate in 1994, and now in 2010 an inspirational Interior Designer. Kelly Wearstler is a beautiful woman that creates beautiful spaces. Obviously not a bit afraid of bold patterns and lots of color!
For Christmas I was blessed with her new book HUE and it is AWESOME!!
Thank you Chrislyn!
HUE features most of Kelly's super colorful designs, but those are not necessarily my favorites. The spaces I love by Kelly the most are the ones that focus on a certain color that appears in just the right spot and those are the photos I am sharing today.

Last but not least is a photo of Kelly in her Foyer at home with her 2 boys. Everything from the carpet to the wallpaper is custom by Kelly Wearstler! WOW......drool
