post 27 of 30: big day

well the big day is almost here.  the day my baby turns one!  i can not believe that it is almost here.  the past year has been the most amazing year of my life.  days filled with her little giggle make life worth living.  she has brought on so many emotions over the past year.  bust mostly she has made me the happiest mommy in the world.  i look forward to her smiling face every morning and her peaceful little face every evening when she sleeps.  this little girl is everything to me.  i know she will never know how much i love her and will never truly understand until she has a child of her own.  she has taught me so many things over the past year, but mostly she has taught me to love everyone and everything unconditionally, and not take anything forgranted.
saturday we are celebrating her birthday with a big bash.  i am freaking out because i opted to take on the cake making/decorating myself and i am not sure what i have gotten myself into!  tomorrow is going to be filled with baking, decorating and preparation.  wish me luck!  i am so excited for the party that i have not had a lot of time to think about my little baby turning one.  i will not be surprised if i cry when monday (her actual birthday) rolls around.  mostly they would be tears of joy.  tears of how much she has grown and how happy she has made me and her father.  i would not trade any second with her for anything, not even the stinkiest diapers or the latest nights.  she has showed me what being a mom is all about, unconditional love, and i would not change it for the world.  before her i was a crafty interior designer and now i know i am still that, but i am totally content with just being "mommy".  i now know that is truly who i am and what i am here to do.  i cant wait for years of fun and years of birthdays to celebrate with her!  Happy Birthday Sweet!

heres what we've got planned!

post 26 of 30: cake decorating

well the week is here, the week of our daughters 1st birthday.  i never thought that the day would come.  months of preparation are all coming together quite nicely.  i have been planning the party for what seems like an eternity.  when it is over i will not know what to do with myself during nap time, as nap time has currently been crunch time.  i started planning a long time ago because i was super excited and because i did not want to be doing everything at the last minute.  the only things left to do now are to paint this owl pitcher,
make water bottle labels,

whip up a salad, and bake!
Baking....that is where you come in to play.  This is definitely my first time attempting anything like this and I need your advice.  I found this wonderful Lemon Blueberry Cake Recipe on www.bluebirdkisses.com.  Wren is obsessed with blueberries.  That is all she would eat if I let her, so when I saw this cake recipe, I knew it was the one!
I am doing a two tier cake.  The bottom tier will be 8" round, and the top tier will be 6" round.  I will probably do three/four layers per tier and I am filling in between the layers with blueberry jam.
Now for the design....  I have so many ideas for the design and I can not narrow it down.  The cake will be an aqua/seafoam color, and I am not opposed to an ombre effect.
here are my ideas.

( the cake topper is VERY similar to the one below) see post here.
so what do you think?  as a first timer which do you think will be the easiest?  which do you think is the prettiest?
i am also making a smash cake that will be very similar to this.

Right on Time.

Friday, March 25th, the due date of my baby, my water broke!  (Only 5% of women actually go into labor on their actual due date, funny that I would fall into that 5%).
I could use this as the excuse of why my blog has been lacking, and yet it is partially to blame, but mostly I just need to get my butt in gear.  Being on maternity leave has been my excuse to be completely lazy and absorbed in my baby.
So back to March 25th, my water broke, but I was not in labor.  I called the hospital and they told me to come in anyway.  I called the hubby to come home from work and off we went!  When I arrived at the hospital they determined, that in fact my water had broke, and they sent in the doctor.  He recomended starting pitocin because we had a small window of time between when my water had broke and when infection would set in if the baby did not come out.  Wanting to do an all natural birth, I declined.  I walked the halls all evening, only to dilate to 3cm and then once again everything came to a halt.  Saturday, March 26th at 10am, the doctor told me I really needed to start the pitocin, having exhausted all natural options, I finally agreed.  At 6:06pm, I gave birth to an 8lb, 21inch beautiful baby girl!  Having not known the sex of the baby, I can truly say it was the most amazing three words to hear my husband say "It's a Girl"!

Baby on the Brain

So my husband and I have been talking about a baby A LOT!
I think we are soon to be ready to start the journey:)
AAHHHHHHHH! This is such an exciting stage of our lives!
We have been working really hard on the house to get things ready for our future as husband and wife. We already have the materials to remodel our guest bedroom.
We have this beautiful loop wool carpet that is ivory and butter yellow and we have ivory paint for the trim and butter yellow paint for the walls.
Now that we are talking about a baby, this room will have to be the nursery.
Since we already have the materials, I have been checking out some ideas for
yellow nursery's!
I of course will want to add more color, but the sex of the baby will determine that!
Here are some ideas I have came across for a Girl Nursery!
(I definitely want to add a chandelier and I LOVE the bright pink accents)

(I love the robins egg blue with the yellow, this is what the guest room accent is now)

(A lovely choice of chandelier:) And my favorite girls room photo)

and Boy....................

(The red is such a great accent and SCREAMS boy!)

(The ceiling would be an AWESOME place for us to pull in our accent color!)
