DIY//Ottoman Pouf

i have been wanting to make an ottoman/pouf for who knows how long.  friday i spent some time pinning other diy ottomans in search of a swift kick in the a** inspiration.  saturday during wren's nap time i felt the need to get crafty, i opened my craft closet, and much to my delight i had all of the supplies i needed to get to work on my ottoman!  i was filled with pure delight.  why hadn't i already done this?
and best of all, i completed all but clean-up during nap time, this took less than two hours folks!
and did i mention FREE, zippo, zilch!!!!

first things first; gather your supplies.
-scissors
-sewing machine
-pins
-thread in your color of choice//i used white
-fabric (approximately 1 yard)//i used leftover kravet fabric from a client project(make sure it is upholstery weight fabric)
-velcro//i used black
-foam//i used 2"
-batting or down//i used a combination of both

step 1
lay out your fabric with the right side facing down.  trace two circles to desired size//i used an 18" table top.  cut out your circles at least 1" outside your trace mark

step 2
hem one of the circles, set aside for base of ottoman

step 3
measure how tall you want your ottoman and cut fabric accordingly.  you will want to cut it about 6" larger than desired height//i made mine taller than my sofa seat to make up for the "give" when placing your feet on top.  it is surprisingly pretty sturdy, so you definitely do not have to do this.
i just cut a long strip at desired height x length of fabric.
then hem one of the long sides of the strip
(sorry no photo)
step 4
pin the circle that you did not hem along the other long side of the strip (the side you did not hem), then sew.
sew the ends of the strip together to close up the ottoman.  remove any excess fabric

step 5
turn fabric right side out
step 6
cut out a circle in your foam, same size as top and bottom of ottoman.
place inside ottoman, push snuggly to top.
cut a strip of foam to desired height of ottoman minus 2"
place inside of ottoman

step 9
get to stuffing!
i first filled mine with batting, and TONS of it!

step 10
i actually then shoved a down filled eurosham in mine.  it game me the weight and firmness that i needed.
other options would be more batting or more foam circles.
(sorry no photo)
step 11
remember how i told you to cut your strip for the sides 6" longer?
well you used up 1" or 2" when sewing the top on, and 1" or 2" when hemming.  the rest will be used to attach the bottom.
take your hemmed circle and attach velcro to wrong side
i definitely recommend sewing the velcro to the circle

step 12
pull the hemmed end of the sides taught to the bottom and attach the circle that you just applied velcro to.  once in place i recommend hand sewing the velcro to the sides.
now when it needs washed you can just pull apart the velcro and it is washable.

shared rooms.

if you haven't already heard, m and i are expecting our second little blessing on march 27th.  we couldn't be more thrilled to give w a playmate and to have another child to ooh and ahh over.  being a parent is the most rewarding job ever.  i cannot imagine my life before w.
we are currently in a 3 bedroom house and really enjoy having a guest room, so we have decided for the kiddos to share a room.  i think they will love this.  i don't know if it is something we will do forever, but for right now i think it is what is best for our family.  w is still in her crib so we will have to transition her into a bed at some point.  i am sure i will not be getting much sleep once the baby arrives, so that may be the perfect tim to do it.  i cannot get shared room ideas out of my head!  of course pinterest has been my best friend.
this is wren's room now.
(the scale is off, but you get the idea)

so i have been looking at photos getting inspiration on a shared room.

wren has the same rocker, only white.  i love the idea of a small table with a chair instead of an end table that would probably just get knocked over.  the little table could have a lamp and would be a great place to sit a drink while i was nursing the little one.....yes i plan to nurse again:)

we currently use a bookshelf in the living room and the changing table to house all of wren's books.  now that the changing table has to store items for 2 people, this will no longer be an option.  w is obsessed with reading so our living room is also always a mess with books everywhere.  i definitely want to incorporate bookshelves into the new room.

i totally want to incorporate a chalkboard into the room.  not sure if it will happen, but i love the idea.

i think that this is the bed i want to go with for wren.  it is extendable which i think is perfect.  she seems so tiny still to stick in a twin bed that something that can be small at first and grow with her will be best.  it is from ikea, and super affordable.

so after much consideration i think this is the layout we will go with.

so what do you think...would you do a shared room?

quilts

i cannot believe that may is almost over but i am so pumped for june i can hardly contain myself.
1st on the list, my super talented cousin is making wren her first ever quilt, i totally cannot wait.  this quilt is going to mean SO many things.  it will be extremely sentimental to me and will be the base of her big girl room.  i picked out several fabrics this weekend and now i am so excited for the finished product.  here are some quilt designs that i adore.  i gave my cousin some recommendations and i am just letting her run with it.

sweet baby graysen

i love painting and my most favorite things to paint are nurseries.  i do not get the opportunity to do it as much as i would like but when i do, i really enjoy it.  thankfully i was recently approached by this lovely couple to create a lovely nursery for their little one on the way!
this is a pan of the room before.

little graysen's nursery was so fun. the lovely couple wanted cartoon-like characters and wanted me to mimic the characters in the crib bedding.
below is a picture of the crib bedding.

it was too fun!  i really love how everything turned out and could not be happier with the outcome.  i hope little graysen likes it too!
his name above the crib with a little monkey hanging out, and a lion to the right.
almost all of the nurseries i have done have had a tree, but i think this is my favorite tree so far!

congratulations ashley and billy, i am so happy for you and know you are and will be amazing parents.
love you.

A walk down memory lane........

My friend just had her little baby Cruze and I failed to post photos of the nursery that I painted prior to his arrival!  Well this nursery is filled with a book from all of our past, Peter Rabbit.

Hopefully one day I will have photos of the finished space and without the pencil marks on my drawings!
