Guest Suite

In our new house I was so excited that it has a Guest Suite, and I have to say the owners of the house did a great job laying out the floor plan. You see, our house has an addition off the back of it. The addition includes the Family Room, a Guest Bedroom and a Guest Bathroom. We love this part of the house and spend a lot of time there.
Here is what it looks like on plan.
Fireplace - we love that it has a corner fireplace, but honestly it surprises me that they included it. You enter the Family Room off of the Living Room which also has a fireplace so I am surprised they put one in here as well, but we are very happy that they did.
Patio - The double doors off of the family room go to our patio which is covered and was also part of the addition. We spend so much time out here in the summer and it is a perfect place to grill, relax, and the girls to ride their bikes.
Storage Space - They were able to include a closet in the bedroom and a linen closet. I have never had a linen closet before and I absolutely love having it, especially to stock up on guest essentials!
Layout - Have I mentioned I love the layout?!?! All the rooms are the perfect size, not too big and not too small. They also included a huge window in the back of the Family Room and Cathedral ceilings. I could obviously go on and on.

Well, now that the Family Room is done, I am ready to tackle the Guest Suite.
Here is what it looks like now.

I still really like the bedding in this room and I am not planning on changing it.

I just bought the lamp and nightstand accessories, so those are staying as well.

so here is how the To Do list for this room looks.

Guest Bedroom
Project List:

  • Upholstered Headboard
  • Paint Ceiling White
  • Paint Walls - PPG Atrium White (focal wall behind bed?)
  • Wall Decor
  • Doors or a curtain on closet?
  • Change out ceiling fan?

I am envisioning the headboard to be upholstered in a black and white fabric, something like this.

or this...

I think if I did a focal wall it would look like this.

or I have toyed with the idea of pineapples:)

and as for a light fixture I would definitely go white and I have been dying to use this one, but honestly it may not make it into the budget.

I wont even get into the guest bathroom on this post because thats a whole nother post for a whole nother day:)
but i do have a sneak peek!
YAY!
this happened....the ceiling was all sorts of shades of yellow and blue before so the white is SUPER refreshing.

Powder your nose

We have a cute little Powder Bath off of our Kitchen under our stairs. It definitely gets the most use in the house and was one of the first rooms that got attention. It was also one of the only rooms that had a faucet left in it, and I actually liked it okay -score.
Here it is before I started working on it, and like all the other cabinets it did not have any hardware.

Here is a wider shot from the kitchen looking in where you can see the lovely faux painted yellow walls.

and lets not forget the decorative wallpaper cutouts that were randomly placed all over this bathroom.

First I took down the mirror over the vanity and then I removed all of the wallpaper cutouts with boiling hot water in a spray bottle and a utility knife.
Then I caulked all of the trim. Next I painted the vanity. I love mint and I had lots leftover from the front door, so I used that.

Then I added some adorable chartreuse pulls that I found at Hobby Lobby for 50% off and a tan Leopard Print Rug.

Here is the view from the Kitchen.

Then I painted the walls with Porter-Atrium White and added in a decorative mirror.

The wall behind the toilet needed something too, so I found this adorable gold basket at a local antique store - perfect toilet paper holder!

if you follow me on facebook you would know that I got a silhouette cameo for Christmas! Ive been wanting to do more to this room and I think I have it figured out!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
stay tuned;)

The Land of Fancy Soaps and Towels You Aren’t Allowed to Use

Ahhhhhh...The bathroom, or "wash room" as my college professor would hammer into our heads.  The one room in my house that we have not touched.  It is currently the color of a #2, how fitting, and lacks storage space horribly!!!  Therefore it is very cluttered.  I have no room to do anything, this morning as I was curling my hair (which is a task in itself because the outlet is on the opposite side of the room as the vanity) I dropped my curling iron onto the ground and peices went flying.  A little surgery and it was good as new, but GEEZ I do not know how much longer I can deal with this!  So this moring, exploring bathrooms is what I have been doing:)
I have always been a fan of a white bathroom and this one is fabulous!

I LOVE this vanity, and my hubby could totally make it!  The yellow mirror on the dark walls is FAB as well!

This is my favorite modern bathroom by far!  All of the modern fixtures with the eclectic touch totally ROCKS my SOCKS!

I love all of the white with the wood tones and that floor, OH that floor!!

This rug is to die for!!  Must begin hunting for that!
